The TERAFLOAT is designed for equine dentistry. It can be held with one hand alone or with the sec-ond hand assisting for better guidance. The carrying case is large enough to hold the instrument and all accessories. The batteries should be removed before storage to avoid it from being accidental turned on inside the case. Cleaning/Maintenance Although water resistant, water should be used restrictively and please avoid water or dental debris from entering the motor. It is best to clean it after each use, before the dental debris has dried. Once dry it is very hard to remove. Only a cleaned instru-ment should be stored in the case. It is especially important to keep the connections between motor/shaft, shaft/head and head/disc very clean and dry.

Lubrication of the threads and the turning parts can be applied as needed, but daily maintenance is not needed. A yearly service is recommended, please contact SWISSVET for details. Safety precautions: Please be aware that accidents can occur when working with horses. Only work with assistants covered under your insurance policy. Please inform the client of the potential risks of dentistry procedures. Always use adequate sedation and a full mouth speculum for examina-tion and treatment. TERAFLOAT is safe and gentle, but use of personal protective items such as glasses, masks, and gloves is recommended. Avoid loose clothing or jewelry, and protect long hair with a hat or ponytail. Warranty We provide a one year limited warranty for manufacturing defaults. The batteries, discs and drive cable are not covered. Inappropriate use of the instrument can limit or void the warranty.

The metal bar that engages the variable speed trigger can be pushed with any finger depending on the position of the hand holding the instrument. The small black switch next to the trigger is locking the trigger if needed. Four small red LED lights indicate the battery charge. It is recommended to recharge the batteries once the charge is at or below 25%. Please use genuine Milwaukee batteries only. There are different batteries available for this motor: a small based type ( or ) and a larger flat base battery type ( and ). The batteries need between 30-75 minutes to charge, depending on the type of battery and the degree of charging needed. Please unplug the charger when not in use and remove charged batteries once the charger indicator light has turned green.

Please refer to the Milwaukee operator s manual for the proper handling of the batteries A four bay charger that charges up to four batteries is available as well as a charger with a combined wall and car plug. Most power inverter for the car can be used with a normal charger if they are rated over 100W. Electronic clutch The Milwaukee motor has a built in electronic limiter to protect the instrument in case the disc suddenly stops. The drive cable and the gears of the TERAFLOAT are sturdy and designed not to fail. However repeated blockage of the grinding disc and burrs will eventually damage to instrument and should be avoided. Make sure you use a speculum that allows sufficient opening of the mouth for your work even in the back of the oral cavity. TERAFLOAT Light weight perfection 4 B. SHAFT The shaft has a serial number starting with the letter S and a four digit number fol-lowed by one letter .

The three LED lights in the shaft turn on once the trigger of the motor has been en-gaged. Depending on the position of the head the light might be direct or indirect to illuminate the grinding area. Make sure you don t block the light with your second hand when using the float. The lights stay on for five seconds after the trigger is released and they turn off automatically. The shaft is easily removed if need. Unscrew the lower cylinder (LC) until completely free and pull the shaft from the motor. When reassembling the shaft make sure the mark on the lower black portion of the shaft is aligned with the mark on the alumi-num part of the motor (two thin arrows). Rotate the disc slightly to engage the drive cable into the driver of the motor if needed. Make sure the threads are clean when screwing on the cylinder and tighten it completely. Turnflex Shaft Depending on the floating procedure and the anatomical location in the horse s mouth the shaft is best used in a straight or in a flexed position.

The Turnflex mecha-nism allows to change from a straight to a flexed position: pull the first turning cylin-der (1) forward and turn it by 180 degrees until the locking notch (N) engages into the second position. Keep this part of the shaft clean and use WD40 or a similar product to keep it lubricated if needed. Rotate the Head If the shaft is in a flexed position it is important for the grinding disc or burrs to have an appropriate position. The head can be rotated in 90 degree increments: Pull the head forward and turn the second turning cylinder (2) until the desired position of the head has been reached. Keep the inner tube between the two turn cylinders clean and lubricate it with WD40 or a similar product if needed. TERAFLOAT Light weight perfection 5 C. HEAD The head has a serial number starting with the letter K and a four digit number fol-lowed by one letter .

The head has a sturdy construction, however it does not withstand the extreme forces of a horse biting on it, nor is this safe for the horse s teeth. Make sure to use an ap-propriate speculum that is open wide enough to use the TERAFLOAT safely. The head has a seal and the disc can be cleaned with water, but use water restrictively and do not let the dental debris dry on the disc or burr, or it will be very difficult to remove. The grinding disc does not have a guard but a 3mm safety boarder with no diamond coating. Keeping the disc and burrs free from dental debris will increase their effica-cy. Make sure they are clean and replace them when dull or your procedure has the increased risk to create high temperatures. Changing the disc or burr The basic TERAFLOAT set comes with two heads with different grinding bodies, and switching from one disc to the apple core burr requires a simple changing of the head.

However, if needed the disc or burrs are easily changed: remove the head by unscrewing the second turning cylinder. Use a blocking tool to block the gear. You can use the special locking key that is supplied with the instrument or you can use a screw driver or a quarter. Once blocked unscrew the disc or burr. Do not turn on the key, it might be locked in the head and may not turn. Make sure the threads of the new burr are clean, screw it onto the head and tighten by hand. Put the head back onto the shaft. Again make sure the threads are clean and lubricate them if needed. Make sure the turning cylinder is completely tightened before going back to work. Grinding disc an burrs The TERAFLOAT offers a coarse diamond chip disc, and several diamond coated burrs: the apple core burr, a cylindrical burr and a short and a long diastema burr. Please make sure you understand the risk of the procedure before applying a diastema be-tween two teeth.

TERAFLOAT Light weight perfection 6 USING THE TERAFLOAT Incisors and Canines: Use the Swissfloat incisor speculum. This procedure is best done at the beginning of the dental work when sedation is the strongest. Use the grinding disc for the incisors and canines, and additionally the apple core burr for the canines. Points on lower and upper arcade: Use the apple core burr: place the burr at a 45 degree angle on the lingual (lower arcade) or vestibular (upper arcade) side on the points to be floated. Start at the most rostral cheek tooth and move the shaft caudal-ly. Lowering the opening of the speculum on the treatment side decreases the cheek tension and increases the space between cheek and molars. It is important to float only until the points are no longer sharp and to preserve as much of the grinding surface as possible.

Hooks on lower and upper arcade: Hooks are best removed with the grinding disk and finished off with the apple core burr as needed. You may use your hand to guide the float for rostral hooks on 1/206. Flexing the shaft down helps avoiding the incisor plates of the speculum. When floating caudal hooks you may flex the shaft to the lingual side to push the tongue away, then hold the float straight or move slightly from the lingual side onto these hooks. If the space between upper and lower arcade is too tight use the large cylindrical burr or the apple core burr for this procedure. Waves and steps Use the grinding disc or the large cylindrical burr for correcting waves or steps. Make sure you do not create an open pulp or a large space between the arcades when floating these conditions. Bit seat Use the apple core burr to place a bit seat, maybe guiding the instrument with your second hand for better control of the procedure.
