Objetivos El objetivo de esta revisi n fue evaluar los efectos de la Terapia formal del habla y lenguaje y tipos de soporte no profesional suministrados por personas sin entrenamiento, a pacientes con afasia despu s de un accidente cerebrovascular (ACV).

9 Estrategia de b squeda Se busc el Registro de Ensayos del Grupo Cochrane de Embolia ( ltima b squeda: Marzo de 1999), y listas de referencias de art culos relevantes hasta diciembre de 1998. Tambi n se contactaron institutos acad micos y a otros investigadores para identificar ensayos adicionales publicados e in ditos. Se realiz una b squeda manual de la Revista Internacional de Des rdenes de Comunicaci n (conocida con otros nombres en el pasado), desde 1969 a 1998. Fecha de las b squedas m s recientes: Enero de 1999. Criterios de selecci n Ensayos aleatorios controlados comparando: 1. Cualquier tipo de Terapia formal del habla y lenguaje administrado en cualquier escenario por terapeutas entrenados versus no-tratamiento.

Cualquier tipo de Terapia del habla y lenguaje suministrada en cualquier escenario por terapeutas de habla y lenguaje entrenados versus cualquier tipo de soporte informal para la afasia , brindado por terapeutas del habla y lenguaje o voluntarios, ya fueran estos entrenados o no entrenados. 3. Un tipo de Terapia del habla y lenguaje versus otros tipos. Las medidas de resultados incluyeron mediciones de cualquier tipo de comunicaci n, otras medidas de funcionamiento, n mero de abandonos, y otras mediciones no cl nicas. Recopilaci n y an lisis de datos El revisor principal obtuvo los datos, y evalu la calidad de los ensayos con interpretaci n de datos independientes y recomendaciones metodol gicas. Cuando no pudimos realizar una combinaci n estad stica de los diferentes estudios, buscamos datos no presentados.
