Mohammed didn t get up! Confucius didn t get up! Buddha didn t get up! Joseph Smith is dead. Jim Jones is dead. David Koresh is dead. But Jesus is Alive! He s Alive! He Got Up! THE FIRST SEVEN Words OF THE RISEN SAVIOUR The seven Words of the Cross give a message from God to all the World. (See the sermon on the last 7 Words of Je-sus on the cross) The first seven Words of the Risen Christ give a message from God to the Church --- to his people. The Resurrection of Christ was the miracle of miracles. Without it .. there would be No Savior No Sure Word of God No Salvation No Hope beyond the Grave LET US NOW LOOK AT THESE SEVEN FIRST Words OF THE RISEN CHRIST SPOKEN ON THAT FIRST EASTER MORNING AND SEEK TO MAKE SOME APPLICATIONS FROM THE Words TO OUR OWN LIVES.

1. WOMAN WHY WEEPEST THOU Joh 20:15 Jesus said to her, Woman, why weepest thou? The first Words of Christ after the Resurrection is to a woman in a garden. It was in the first garden where a women was questioned, and as a result sin was brought into the world. (See Gen 3) I wonder if there is not some symbolism here. The first sin was committed by a woman, the first grace was given to a woman. This woman is weeping. Think of all the tears through the years. Tears would have never been apart of life had there been no sin. Even Jesus wept (shortest verse in the Bible John 11:35) Here Jesus stands on Resurrection ground and asks, "Why weepest thou?" He did not take away the tears, but he was there as an answer to her tears. He will not take away your tears, yet He is the answer to every reason for our tears. And One Day ---- Rev. 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes".

Mary did not recognize the Lord. Perhaps it was her tears. Maybe it was the time of day. It probably was because she was not looking for Him. The 7 Words of Jesus after the Resurrection Pastor Riaan Rabe 2. MARY Joh 20:16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. Jesus said to her: Mary! Not magdalene ! magdalene was the name that held her to her past. But He called-her by her a true name. Every disciple knows the Savior s voice. "My sheep hear my voice". If you do not know when the Lord is speaking to you then you are headed for trouble. Those who love the Lord the most get the greater blessing. Notice verses 10 and 11a. They all loved, but it seems by her actions that she loved more and had the blessing of meeting him first. 3. GO TELL MY BRETHREN Joh 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, .. but go to my brethren, She had the message of the Resurrection .

The Resurrection gives us a message to tell to the world. A message that sin had been paid for at the cross .A message that we have a hope beyond the grave. A message of Resurrection for ourselves one day and a great reunion day. 1Th 4:13-18 But I would not have you ignorant, brothers, concerning those who are asleep, that you be not grieved, even as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will also bring with Him all those who have fallen asleep through Jesus . For we say this to you by the Word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord shall not go before those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the arch-angel and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and re-main shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.

And so we shall ever be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these Words . We have a message. The cross gives us a message. The Resurrection gives us a message and a power to deliver it. Are we going to tell it? 4. PEACE BE UNTO YOU Joh 20:19 , Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, Peace to you! Jesus gave the promise of peace. Not only peace with God, but also the peace of God. Peace and not blame. Peace and not fault-finding. His first Words were Words of peace, and not rebuke. Sin takes away our peace. Troubled hearts, troubled consciences, trouble minds .. all due to the conse-quences of sin. There is no peace to be found in the world. In the world we only find war, fear, and trou-bles, but no peace. 5. AS MY FATHER HATH SENT ME SO SEND I YOU -- RECEIVE YE THE HOLY GHOST Joh 20:21-22 Then Jesus said to them again, Peace to you. As My Father has sent Me, even so I send you.

And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. Here is the call to service and the power to serve. There is a job to be done for the Lord. That is the reason he has left us here instead of taking us home to heaven immediately after conversion. We are powerless without Him. He puts his power inside us through the Person of the Holy Spirit. The Cross gives us the message - The Resurrection gives us the power. 6. BE NOT FAITHLESS BUT BELIEVING Joh 20:27 Then He said to Thomas, Reach your finger here and behold My hands; and reach your hand here and thrust it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing. A word to the doubting Thomas s. Notice the following: 1. Notice how much a Christian may lose out by not regularly attending the assembly of God s people. Compare verses 24 and 26. 2. Thomas was there at the next meeting and Jesus CAME!

He met the Lord and you can meet him too. You can meet him by faith. 7. BLESSED ARE THEY THAT HAVE NOT SEEN AND YET HAVE BELIEVED. Joh 20:29 Jesus said to him, .. Blessed are they who have not seen and have believed. A word to us today. He is speaking of us. We are saved by faith - :8 - 9. We are to walk by faith - :24 Mary lost the Lord in verse 13 --- but she found him because of the Resurrection and his love.
