Let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest always in your loving embrace. From Father Rodney Terror on every side. These words from the 20th chapter of the Book of Jeremiah that we hear proclaimed this 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time could be the soundtrack name of the year 2020.

6 The year is only 6 months old and it has already had a lasting effect to say the least. A global pandemic; civil unrest in our own country; a bleak economic outlook and countless other tragedies that have polarized our world. One wants to cry out when will it end?! I was reading an article that quoted Dr. Anthony Fauci as saying that things will not fully resume some semblance of normalcy for another year. Really? Another whole year of sitting inside with a mask on? Another year of not being able to visit nursing homes and hospitals? Another year of standing six feet apart from one another? Another year of living in fear when we hear someone cough? I don t know!

7 Perhaps but even though there seem to be things that terrorize us on every side we take comfort in the words of Jeremiah at the end of the same reading that we heard at Mass this weekend. Jeremiah ends with for he (the Lord) has rescued the life of the poor from the power of the wicked. All of the trials and tribulations we have been forced to endure will eventually come to an end if we commit ourselves, as 21st century disciples, who have been tasked with bringing about lasting change in our troubled world. We must arm ourselves with the Gospel of Truth and speak using the transformative words of Jesus that we hear in the Gospel: FEAR NO ONE! Saint Matthew captures Jesus words that empower us to go and make a difference.

8 Today is our day! Let us be emissaries of change so that hatred and bigotry might be rooted out of the fabric of the United States of America for good! Father s Day 2020 A very special word of gratitude to fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, fathers-in-law, adoptive fathers, godfathers and anyone else who functions as a father. A special word of thanks to you for your love, support and protection as we celebrate you this special day. May the intercession of St Joseph, the protector of Jesus and Mary, pray that you may always fulfill your fatherly role.
