The relics of Saint Pio available for public veneration will be his glove; crusts of the wounds; cotton-gauze with his blood stains; a lock of his hair; his mantle; and a handkerchief soaked with his sweat hours before he died.

Scripture tells us that many people followed John, looking to him for hope. John never allowed himself the false honor of receiving these people for his own glory. He knew his calling was one of preparation.

8 The Church specially honors John by celebrating the feasts of both his martyrdom and AUG (Monday):SAINT MONICA, (322-387)A Christian from birth, she was given in marriage to a bad-tempered, adulterous pagan named Patricius. She prayed constantly for the conversion of her husband (who converted on his death bed), and of her son, St. Augustine (who converted after a wild life and 18 years of his mother s prayers). 28 AUG (Yuesday):SAINT AUGUSTINE, Bishop and Doctor of the Church (354-430)Augustine was brought up in the Christian faith but did not receive baptism. An ambi-tious schoolboy of brilliant talents and violent passions, he early lost both his faith and his in-nocence.

9 He persisted in his irregular life and doctrinal errors until he was 32. Then one day, stung to the heart by the account of some sudden conversions, he cried out, The unlearned rise and storm heaven, and we, with all our learning, for lack of courage lie inert! His mother, St. Monica, had been praying unceasingly for 18 years for Augustine s return to the faith.
