The terrorists can attack us, they can kill us, but they cannot prevent us from loving them and from praying for them, so that God may give them more human think it is important to realize that this call to be more resolute, loving and faithful is not only for those who are under attack but is also a mandate for all Christians whose hearts are aligned with the persecuted. This is a call to act as God does and not as humans do. Divine intervention is needed in the midst of persecution as well as in anticipation of persecutions yet to come and in reaction to what has already been done to others. We will fall to any and all attacks to our faith if we are not living the sacramental felt compelled to share these thoughts with you as a response to the persecutions we are encountering.

7 We need to be aware of the trials our brothers and sisters are facing. I also wanted to address the helplessness we feel in the face of these persecutions, offering the challenge of solidarity through the Eucharist. And finally, to address what I have witnessed in these weeks since Easter . It is an observable fact that every year after Easter , mass attendance plummets. Many of you have shared your observations of the same and some have sought to "console" me by letting me know I shouldn't take it personally and the annual post Easter drop off is not my fault. While I don't take it personally, I know it is my responsibility to care for the souls of this parish community. Why is it mortal sin, objectively speaking, to choose to stay away from Mass on Sundays or holy days of obligation? The answer is, by that decision, on that occasion, we turn our backs on Christ and on the process of our redemption.

8 We refuse to carry out Christ s command to do this for the recalling and receiving of him and his salvation. We are also cutting ourselves off from that which keeps us "alive" here on earth and Jesus Christ who alone has the power to grant us eternal is one final thought, in light of the national holiday we celebrate this weekend. We honor those who have laid down their lives for our country, because we enjoy the freedoms earned and protected by their sacrifices. In addition, we speak out against all attacks that would set aside the victories of their sacrifices. This is also true in our life of faith. This past week we celebrated a 20th century martyr, St Crist bal Magallanes, a priest and martyr executed during the Cristero War in Mexico. He gave his life opposing government imposed secularism, atheism, anti-Catholic laws, attacks on religious freedom and the welfare of the Mexican people. All of which remain a challenge today.

9 We stand up to these ongoing persecutions, not by rejecting the practice of faith and dishonoring those who laid down their lives, but by being faithful to it.
