THE GOSPEL OF JUDAS English Translation by April D. DeConick Opening Salutation The secret revelatory discourse 2in which Jesus spoke with JUDAS 3 Iscariot, for 4eight days, three 5days before he celebrated 6 Passover. When he appeared 7on earth, he did 8miracles and great signs 9for the salvation of humanity. 10 And some [walked] 11in the way of righteousness, 12while others walked in their 13sin. The twelve disciples 14were called. 15He started to speak with 16them about the mysteries that 17are beyond the universe and the things 18that would happen from then on. 19 Often he did not appear to his 20disciples, but when necessary 21you would find him in their midst. OPENING OF THE OPENING Jesus Critical of the Eucharist Offered by the Twelve Disciples Opening: And he appeared in Judaea 23to his disciples one day.

24He found them sitting, 25gathered together, practicing 26godliness. When he 27[approached] his disciples gathered and seated, offering thanks 2over the bread, [he] laughed. Middle: The disciples said to him, 4 Teacher, why are you laughing at [our] 5eucharist? We have done what 6is right. Closing: He answered, saying 7to them, I am not laughing at you. 8 You do not do this 9by your own will, but by this, 10your god [will] be worshiped. MIDDLE OF THE OPENING Jesus Critical of the Confession Made by the Twelve Disciples Opening: They said, Teacher, 12[are] you [not] the son of our 13god? Jesus said to them, 14 How do [you] know me? Truly [I] tell you, 16no generation will 17know me from the people who are among 18you.

Middle: When the disciples heard 19this, [they] 20began to get annoyed and 21angry, and they cursed him in 22their hearts. When Jesus 23saw their ignorance, [he said] 24to them, Why this angry uproar? 25 Has your god within 26you and [his ..] vexed your souls? 2 Whoever has the strength among you 3men, let him bring forward the 4perfect person, and let him stand 5in front of me! And they all said, 7 We have the strength. Closing: But their spirits 8were not able to get up the courage to stand before him, 9except JUDAS 10 Iscariot. He was able 11to stand before him, 12yet he could not look him 13in the eyes. But he turned 14away his face. JUDAS [said] to him, 15 I know 16who you are and from what place you have come.

17 You came from the immortal 18 Aeon of Barbelo, 19and the one who sent you 20is he whose name I am not worthy to speak. Then Jesus, knowing 22that he was thinking about something 23exalted, said to him, 24 Separate from them. I shall tell you 25the mysteries of the Kingdom, 26not so that you will go there, 27but so that you will grieve greatly. For someone else will take 2your place so that the twelve 3[disciples] will still 4be complete before their god. And JUDAS said to him, 6 When will you tell me these things? 7 And (when) will the great 8day of light dawn for the generation 9[..]? But after he 10said these things, Jesus left him. CLOSING OF THE OPENING Jesus Critical of the Holiness of the Twelve Disciples Opening: The next morning, after this happened, 12he [appeared] to his disciples.

And they said to him, Teacher, 14where did you go? What did you do 15when you left us? Jesus said to them, 16 I went to another great 17holy generation. Middle: His disciples said to him, 19 Lord, who is the great generation 20more exalted and holier than us, 21(a generation) not in these realms? And after Jesus heard this, 23he laughed. He said to them, 24 Why are you wondering 25in your heart about the 26strong and holy generation? Truly, [I] say to you, 2whoever is born of this realm 3will not see that generation. 4 Nor will an army of 5angels of the stars rule 6over that generation. Nor will 7people of mortal birth be able to 8associate with it, because that generation 9does not come from [.]

] 10who lives [..]. 11[The] generation of people among [you] 12is from the human generation. 13[..] 14power that [..] 15power [..] 16[by] which you rule. Closing: When [his] disciples heard this, 18they were troubled in [their] 19spirits, each one (of them). They could not 20say a thing.
