FESTIVAL FAIRIES WINTER APPEAL. At the beginning of September (Issue 384), we featured an article documenting Amanda Veal's mission to lead a team at the music festivals held at the Norwich Show Ground to up-cycle left behind sleeping bags, pop up tents and food for the homeless in Norwich. Amanda runs a local knitting, sewing and crochet group in holt every Thursday morning at the Community Centre, making hand crafted items for local community groups and special projects chosen by the members of Little Star. She said, this is the second year we have attended the event in Norwich and it has been such a success that I and fellow co-founder AJ Saunders decided we needed to make a separate group of like minded individuals, passionate about their communities and the people who live in them.

5 We have decided to call ourselves Festival Fairies, like the shoemakers elves, the fairies of folklore or Tinkerbell, we appear when everyone has gone. We clear away what is left behind and turn it into something useful for those who need it most.. Another person passionate about his community and helping others less fortunate than himself is local landlord of The King's Head in holt , Michael Salmon. On hearing of Amanda's exploits he wanted to reach out and share his ideas of hosting a clothing drive at the King's Head throughout December, to aid the homeless and those living in half way hostels locally. Mike, as he is known locally and to his friends, said, I. have great ideas and wanted to share thoughts about doing something special for the homeless this winter. I don't want the King's Head to be just a pub but a community hub where local people can meet and spend time together rather than being at home alone.

6 On Sunday evenings we have complimentary hot nibbles created by the chefs on the bar and free pool so that local people have somewhere to be with each other. I want to create a bigger sense of community here in holt and the King's Head is a perfect meeting place.. After meeting Mike, Amanda introduced him to her friends at Little Star and their hosts, Rev. John Mills and Carolyn Burn, who run the Community Cafe. Each week The Cafe runs at the Community Centre in holt from 12noon - , serving a home cooked two course meal to members of the local community. Amanda said, Every month we see new people Amanda and Mike, of Festival Fairies, at the King's Head coming through the door. Currently the Cafe volunteers are serving 80 people each week and the atmosphere is wonderful, a real sense of community has been achieved by everyone coming together.

7 Rev. John Mills added: We have 120 people booked for the Christmas Day meal and it's going to be a real blessing, I can't wait, with Carolyn adding, Hectic but wonderful! . Launching the appeal Mike said, throughout December people can bring their items to the King's Head. From there we can distribute them to people in need in our rural towns as well as the hostels in the city.. Please bring donations of good quality clean coats, jumpers, jeans, trainers or boots, toiletries including feminine care, tins and packets of food, new underwear (please be aware many are malnourished and Caroline, Ray and therefore we need small to medium sizes) including socks and thermal wear, blankets and sleeping bags, during opening hours. all the team at For more information or for large donations please email THE holt CHRONICLE.
