4 SECTION 1 - PURPOSEThis comprehensive Zoning By-law is intended to prohibit the use of land and the erection or use ofbuildings or structures for or except for such purposes as set down in this by-law; to prohibit the erection oruse of buildings on land which is subject to flooding, or on land by reason of its rocky, marshy or unstablecharacter the cost of construction of satisfactory waterworks, sewage, or drainage facilities is prohibitive; toregulate the height, bulk, location, size, floor area, spacing, character and use of buildings or structures; toregulate the minimum frontage and depth of a parcel of land and the portion of the area thereof that anybuilding or structure may occupy; to require loading and parking facilities for buildings or structureserected or used for certain purposes.

5 To prohibit the making or establishment of pits and quarries withindefined areas and to regulate the making or establishment of pits and quarries within defined areas of 2 - TITLEThis By-law shall be cited as "Zoning By-law No. " and shall apply to all land included within theMunicipality of HASTINGS HIGHLANDS as shown on the attached 20-76 OF THE TOWNSHIP OF BANGOR, WICKLOW & MCCLURE AND ALLAMENDMENTS HERETO ARE HEREBY 310-79 OF THE TOWNSHIP OF HERSCHEL AND ALL AMENDMENTS HERETOARE HEREBY 19-76 OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MONTEAGLE AND ALL AMENDMENTS HERETOARE HEREBY A FIRST TIME THIS DAY OF , A SECOND TIME THIS DAY OF.

7 As enacted by the Council of theCorporation of the MUNICIPALITY of HASTINGS HIGHLANDS . day of , 2003. , MUNICIPALITY of HASTINGS HIGHLANDS SECTION 3 - DEFINITIONS2 MUNICIPALITY OF HASTINGS HIGHLANDS - COMPREHENSIVE ZONING BY-LAWFor the purposes of this By-law, the definitions and interpretations in this Section shall govern unless thecontext indicates otherwise.

8 The word "shall" is mandatory and not directory. Words used in the presenttense include the future tense and the reverse. Words used in the plural number include the singularnumber and the ABANDONED shall mean the failure to proceed expeditiously with the construction of a work,specifically abeyance of construction for six "ABATTOIR" shall mean a slaughter-house designed for the purpose of killing animals,skinning, dressing and cutting up of carcasses, wrapping for sale for human consumption withcooler and freezer storage and may include indoor confinement of animals while awaitingslaughter but shall not include the manufacturing of meat by-products or any process related torendering plants such as the manufacture of tallow, grease, glue, fertilizer, or any other ACCESSORY BUILDING shall mean a detached building or structure, the use of which iscustomarily incidental and subordinate to a principal use.

10 INTENSIVE" shall mean lands which are used for the purposes ofaccommodating livestock which either exceed 150 livestock units, or exceed 50 livestock unitswith a livestock density of greater than 5 livestock units per tillable "AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE SALES OUTLET" shall mean a seasonal use accessory to afarm which consists of the retail sale of agricultural products such as fruit, vegetables, flower orfarm produce, the majority of which are produced on the farm where such outlet is "ALTER" shall mean any alteration in a bearing wall or partition, column, beam, girder or othersupporting member of a building or structure or any increase in the area or cubic contents of abuilding or structure.
