1 The newsletter of the Ottawa Power and Sail SquadronSpring 2018 Page: 1 From the Commander s Helm Station:The Spring or VernalEquinox (equal dayand night), whenthe sun crosses the celestialequator, is upon us. TheVernal Equinox is in Piscesnow; it used to be in Aries(a little tidbit from theOffshore Navigation 2course). This means theboats will be coming out of storage in the ensuingweeks and work will begin in earnest in preparing forthe upcoming National AGM and Conference will be held inOttawa this year and it will be an anniversary of 80years of service by CPS-ECP to the recreationalboating community. The Ottawa Squadron has 66years of service to the local boating community. Theplanning of this event is headed by the Commander ofthe Rideau District, Guy Ladouceur. This committeehas been working diligently to provide a top rate eventfor the CPS-ECP membership. The work of thiscommittee is ongoing and won t be finished until wellafter the are looking for volunteers for this event, so pleaseconsider this opportunity.

2 Why not volunteer for a dayand be part of the event and see what goes on at aNational Conference. You will meet members from allacross Canada and you can learn what it is like to boatin their part of the country. If you are interested, youcan get in touch with Guy. The Squadron has over 400 members which ishealthy but will be impossible to maintain unless wecan recruit new and younger members. We still offer theclassroom option, but we are building up a library ofvideos that will provide the content for the will spend a week reviewing the requiredvideos from home then once a week they will meetonline with their instructors and proctors to discussthe material and clear up any questions they mighthave. It would begreat if all our present and futuremembers would sign on to themember side of the present WBAS system and update all memberprofile information so that whenthe new system comes out CPS-ECP can input up to dateinformation.
