The Palatine Immigrant DECENNIAL INDEX 1975-1985 VOLUMES 1-10 @Copyright 1986 Palatines to America 611 East Weber Road, Columbus, Ohio 43211-1097 Editor: Dr. John Terence Golden 2609 Summit Street Columbus, Ohio 43202-2432 DEDICATION This index is dedicated to our members and their Immigrant ancestors. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Abstracting was begun by John M. Mangus (Columbus, OH), who entered the material in his Apple IIe computer. After several volumes were done, abstracting was continued and concluded by John M. Mangus, Michael W. Wismer (Rockford, IL), Candy Livengood (Sarver, PA) and John T.
Golden (Columbus, OH), this material being entered in an Apple IIe computer by Michael W. Wismer. After a "translation" process involving a Honeywell 66 Level computer and Honeywell minicomputer, the material on discs from the Apple IIe was uploaded to the mainframe. Material on Apple IIe discs was then uploaded also, and all material was combined to form a master data base. The master data base was sorted alphabetically, then checked and edited by Michael W. Wismer and John T. Golden. Finally, it was paginated and then printed with three passes of a Honeywell Microline 92 printer. The software that made possible the computer transfers, printing and pagination was written by Christopher Wiggs (Rockford, IL).
The supplementary indexes were prepared by John T. Golden, making use of material in the earlier index to the first six volumes (Vol. VII, ) which had been prepared by Montford Schaffner, Robert J. Boroughf and Arta F. Johnson. He typed them onto a Radio Shack Model 100 computer and transferred them to a Model 4P with Disk+ ROM chip and software. The Title/Key Word section was alphabetized with a program generated by "Sorter", written by Robert C. Wilson, Georgetown, MA (80 Micro, July 1985, LINE INPUT replacing INPUT in line 140); the rest with Radio Shack's These were checked and edited by Margaret L.
Kirkland (Columbus, OH) and printed with a Radio Shack DWP 210 printer, using LeScript software. Our thanks are extended to all the above and to all who contributed the material, ideas, time and effort that made possible the first ten volumes of The Palatine Immigrant . INTRODUCTION The Name Index is a listing of all names in Volumes I through X of The Palatine Immigrant , with exception of some that appear in the following supplementary indexes ( , authors) and a few names mainly of contemporary significance ( , officers, speakers). Included are all entries in " Immigrant Ancestors" and the " Immigrant Ancestor Register"; should you find that an ancestor appears in these features, ask assistance of your Membership Registrar in contacting the submitter.
Many of these entries may be found in our Ancestor Charts publications, available from our National Office, with additional and corrected information. IFC = Inside Front Cover; IBC = Inside Back Cover. Umlauts have been put in the forms "ae", "oe" and "ue". An entry consisting of surname and location only is usually a family name in a book review or index. For most entries, the Volume, Issue and Page(s) follow the name, separated by colons. When these do not appear and the entry consists of alternate spellings (Beistline/Beuschlein), this is a key to alternate spellings.
Look in the index under the second surname listed. Parentheses are also used to indicate alternate spellings and other variations. (Examples: Geis(t)er = Geiser or Geister; Egerich, Gretchen (Margaret) = Gretchen or Margaret Egerich.) Be prepared for variations in spelling of your ancestors' names; a useful book covering spelling variations is A Guide to the Spelling and Pronunciation of German Names by Dr: Arta F. Johnson. Back issues are available for purchase (see following page). Volumes I and II are in limited quantities; these were largely indexes to early publications on Immigrant origins which are now out of print, the material in them appearing in newer publications of improved quality and accuracy.
For information on names in Volumes I and II you may send a SASE to your Corresponding Secretary (or Journal Editor). Your National Headquarters and Library, each Chapter, and some libraries (including LDS) have complete sets. We look forward to the next ten years! Back issues of The Palatine Immigrant are available.
