And a Prayer Request: We have 11 youth participating in our Confirmation 2018 class! Each of the kids has been paired with a mentor, a member of the congregation who is experienced and caring to help encourage them on their faith journey.

As members and friends, we ask you to pray for the young people in Confirmation, as well as their mentors and families. The Confirmation experience involves the entire congregation as we help our youth to be prepared to confirm the commitment to living a Christian life made for them by their parents when they were young. Mix-Sups Return in February! CUMC isn t a church building it s a living community of creative, involved, Christian and very interesting people.

6 Like me, I bet you d like to get to know more people of our own fascinating community. Mix-Sups (a bit of a play on words) groups are the fun and easy way to do this! Each Mix-Sups group typically has 7 to 8 people who gather at a mutually agreed time (typically, once a month) to socialize over a meal at the home of one of the group s members, or at a restaurant. Each group has a convener who facilitates the planning of the first gath-ering and then watches as others in the group arrange subsequent gatherings. By the way: We are in need of volunteers to be conveners. If you have questions, contact Pam Bell at Our Gifts, Service, Adult Ministries Corner Reading the Bible Together, a weekly Bible study, led by the Rev. Martha Morales, meets Wednesday mornings from 9:45-10:45 in Room 2. All are welcome! Contact: Peggy Williams & Wilma McLeod Men s Enrichment Group gathers on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday morning of each month for food, fellowship, individual sharing, and devotional study. (Upcoming meetings will be February 28, March 14 and 28). Our devotional study is using the book Public Faith in Action: How to Think Carefully, En-gage Wisely and Vote with Integrity. We meet in the dining room of Mt. San Antonio Gardens at 8:00 till 9:30. 9 , San Dimas Amy Hunter: I Drink my Coffee Black: What it Means to be Black in a Divided America Amy writes, I drink my coffee black so I will not forget the impact globally of colonization on people of color. The impact on health, infant mortality, trauma, poverty, and violence are some of the stark similarities and patterns of oppression that are shared in the lives of Black, Latino, Indigenous, and Palestinian people. I have witnessed the strength of women and mothers; and the impact they are having on movements around the world. We all have a role to play to end racism and other forms oppression. Come join the movement for change and liberation. Sunday, March 11, 2018 7:00 at Claremont Presbyterian Church, 1111 N. Mountain Ave., Claremont Amir Hussain: American Muslims in the Age of President Trump Muslims, both within America and around the world, are the religious community that is most affected by the presidency of Donald J. Trump. Professor Hussain will talk about the challenges raised for American Muslims, including issues such as travel bans, Islamophobic tweets, and administrative appointments.

10 He will also look at the realities of Muslim life in the United States. Dreier writes, One of Donald Trump s biggest accomplishments so far has been to galvanize a growing resistance The big question is where is this movement going? It isn t enough just to say no the pro-corporate and racist agenda. Can the resistance movement go beyond protest? Harrison St., Claremont Ed Bacon: Effective Justice Indignation The danger in being outraged by the outrages of our times is drowning in our own anger. That leads us to play thoughtless roles in perpetuating the tribalistic polarization narrative in the United States today. There is an option that makes indignation not only righteous but effective.
