“Twas The Night Before Jesus Came

1 Eisenhower Church of christ twas The Night Before Jesus Came twas the Night Before Jesus came and all through the house Not a creature was praying, not one in the house. Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care In hopes that Jesus would not come there. The children were dressing to crawl into bed, Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head. And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap. When out of the East there arose such a clatter I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash! When what to my wondering eyes should appear But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.

2 With a light like the sun sending for a bright ray I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY! The light of His face made me cover my head It was Jesus returning just like He had said. And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth, I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself. In the Book of Life which He held in His hand Was written the name of every saved man. He spoke not a word as He searched for my name; When He said, It s not here my head hung in shame. The people whose names had been written with love He gathered to take to His Father above. With those who were ready He rose without a sound While all the rest were left standing around.

3 I fell to my knees, but it was too late; I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate. I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight, Oh, if only I had been ready tonight. In the words of this poem the meaning is clear, The coming of Jesus is drawing near. There s only one life and when comes the last call We ll find that the bible was true after all. ~selected~ Response Marilyn Upshaw came forward on Sunday morning, December 5th stating that she is weak and needs our prayers to her help her stay strong and also asks that God forgive her of her sins and asked to be restored to her first love. Sympathy Our condolences go out to the following families: To the family of Marcus Crain who passed from this life on Saturday, December 4th at Medical Center Hospital.

4 Arrangements were conducted by the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with his viewing on Monday, December 6th and a graveside service on Tuesday, December 7th. Marcus was 22. To Ginger Brookshire in the loss of her mother, Fran Hill. Fran left this life on Monday evening, December 6th, 2010. She had been under Hospice Care at the Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 on Friday, December 10th here at Eisenhower and her burial will take place in Pecos, TX. To Vickie Ryan in the loss of her aunt, Essie Lewis, who passed away in her sleep on Thanksgiving Day. She lived in Arcadia, CA. She was 92 years old. The family of Bessie Millwee, who passed away at her home on Tuesday, November 30th.

5 Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 4th at the Gardendale Church of christ . Bessie was a former member of Eisenhower. Concerns John Bethune was put in CCU #14 at the Medical Center Hospital following a knee replacement surgery. He is experiencing low blood pressure. Also, John had an angiogram and other tests done on December 8th. If blockage is found, he will have to have stents put in. Concerns Update We are glad to report that Keely McFarland s surgery on Monday went very well and was able to go home on Tuesday, December 7th. Remember to keep all of our sick, shut-ins, the bereaved, our military personnel and the spiritually weak, in your daily prayers.

7 This week s topic is entitled Designed by God Also, tune in to hear Eddie Parrish, of the Brown Trail Church of christ , present a lesson highlighted on the Speaking the Truth in Love program every Sunday at 8:00 on ABC. Events New Mexico Christian Children s Home in Portales will be in Odessa on December 15th to pick up the food that the churches have collected for them. They need canned tomatoes, canned fruit and chocolate chips. They also accept monetary contributions. Ladies Night will be Tuesday, December 14th at 6:30 in the Annex. This will be our gift exchange get together. Please bring a homemade gift or a gift of $ or less. Also remember the 5 cans of food or any other non-perishable food items for our pantry and a finger food for our meal.

Annual Progressive Dinner: This year s Progressive Dinner is scheduled for Friday, December 31st at 7:30 We will start at Randy & Patsy Mitchell s home in Gardendale and finish at the home of Eddie & Cindy Beason. Please bring either an appetizer or dessert. It is okay to bring both. The main meal will be handled by three different homes and has been taken care of. You will be instructed as to which home you will go to for your main course. Come and join in on the fun and let us bring in the New Year together! Congratulations to Sawyer and Amanda Lackey who were united in marriage on Friday, November 26th here in Odessa.

9 We wish them a long and happy life. Thank You Dear Eisenhower family, I want to thank you for the cards, kind words and prayers during the time my sister, Nancy was so ill. She is doing so much better, still getting her strength back. It is wonderful to be part of such special Christians!
