2 **Historical SignificanceThe Foundation of the Ranger ProgramRanger training at Fort Benning, Georgia began in SEP 1950 duringthe Korean war with the formation and training of 17 Airborne Ranger companies bythe Ranger Training OCT 1951 the Commandantof the US army Infantry Schoolestablished the RangerDepartment and extendedRanger training to all combatunits in the army .
