1 uranus 65310 L modified grade - C < , Si < for nitric acid servicesStandardsChemical analysis - Weight %Mechanical propertiesUR65 Rev 1 - 14/02/2011 issue - page 1UR 65 is a 25 Cr 20 Ni austenitic stainless steel withsharp control of the residual elements in order to providehigh corrosion resistance properties in boiling 50-65%Nitric acid solutions. The silicon content is kept while the carbon content is lower than Molybdenum additions are also well known to reduce thebehaviour of the steel in nitric acid solutions. Thisexplains why the molybdenum content is guaranteedlower than .The sharp control of Carbon, Silicon and <.3< .3Nb < - Mn < F 1%UTSEl% X1 Cr Ni NAGcontents makes it possible to produce a more stable austenite microstructure, free of intermetallic or carbideprecipitations.
2 The alloy is designed for nitric acid applications . The grade is not recommended for concentrated nitricacid purposes or highly oxydizing nitric acid solutions(with Cr VI )Tensile properties - Minimum guaranteed valuesImpact valueHigh impact strength even at cryogenic temperatures -Average hardness =155 HBTypical values (% weight)UR65 Rev 1 - 14/02/2011 issue - page 2 Physical propertiesCorrosion resistanceIntervaltemperatureThermalexpa nsion C FResistivityThermalconductivityYoungmodu lusEShearmodulusG Ca x10-6K-1 = 7900 kg/m3 Because of its high chromium content, UR 65 has anexcellent resistance in boiling nitric acid solutions of lessthan about 70% these conditions, the alloy behaves much better than304 L , thanks to the close control of impurities suchas carbon, silicon, phosphorus which are known to bedeleterious to the resistance of stainless steels in nitricacid solutions in the sensitized condition, UR 65 gradeperforms very well in HNO3solution up to 70%.
3 Nitric acid solutions containing CrVIspecies are muchmore oxydant than usual HNO3solutions. In those cases,UR 65 is normaly not to be used.
