1 VIRGINIA BOARD FOR CONTRACTORS . APPROVED TRADESMAN continuing education PROVIDERS. The following list of education providers has been APPROVED by the BOARD for CONTRACTORS to conduct training that meets the three-hour continuing education requirement for Journeyman and Master Electricians (ELE), HVAC Tradesman (HVAC), Plumbers (PLB), and the one-hour continuing education requirement for Journeyman and Master Gas Fitters, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Fitters, and Natural Gas Fitters. Tradesmen who hold a Master and Journeyman designation only need to complete one continuing education course in the respective trade.

2 If you have more than one trade on your license, you must complete continuing education for each trade designation noted ( , if you have the plumbing and electrical trade designations, you must complete three hours of continuing education for each trade, for a total of six hours). The continuing education course for Gas Fitters, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Fitters, and Natural Gas Fitters must cover the International Fuel Gas Code. Therefore, there are not different courses for each of these designations. Any class below with GFC listed will satisfy the renewal requirements for Gas Fitters, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Fitters, and Natural Gas Fitters.

3 If you have more than one of these designations on your license, you only need to complete one APPROVED course covering the International Fuel Gas Code. The continuing education requirements must be fulfilled before you can renew your license. You will be required to complete the continuing education requirements during each two-year renewal period of your license. Please refer to the expiration date on your license to determine the date by which your continuing education requirement(s) must be completed. continuing education providers are required to electronically submit rosters for each course they conduct, which are then downloaded to your individual tradesmen record.

4 While it should not be necessary for you to submit documentation proving course completion, you are strongly encouraged to keep a record of completing the course ( certificate of completion) in case it is requested by the BOARD office when you renew. Please note that it takes approximately two weeks for the electronic records to be transmitted and downloaded. Therefore, the BOARD office will not be able to confirm that your continuing education has posted on your record prior to that time. Contact information for continuing education providers who do not wish to offer classes to the public is not listed.
