Most universities accept either test. Either the ACT or SAT exams should first be taken at the end of the junior year. Registration deadline for each test is five weeks prior to the test date. Check with your counselor or on the exam posters in the Career Center for this information.

6 You may also take the exams at other sites during the year. Registration and preparation booklets may be obtained in the Career Center. Fee waivers are available if the cost of these tests will cause a hardship. Free testing practice is available at the Casa Grande City Library and online. SAT Scholastic Aptitude Test is now known as the SAT Reasoning Test. This test consists of 3 areas Critical Reading, Mathematics and a Writing Test. The fee for this test is $ ; $ ; with Writing. ACT American college Test. The test is divided into four subject areas; English, Mathematics, Reading and Science Reasoning.

7 There is an optional writing test available for those students wishing to showcase their writing skills. The fee for the basic test is $ ; and an additional $ for those who wish to take the writing exam. AIMS AIMS Science is a Standards-Based Assessment that measures student proficiency of the Arizona Academic Content Standard in Science. It meets federal requirements for student assessment. It is administered in the spring to students in Grades 4, 8, 9, and 10. AzMERIT Arizona s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching, is the AzMERIT State Assessment. These exams will be aligned to Arizona s English Language Arts and Mathematics standards.

8 Standards are the expectations of what every child should be able to do at each grade level. Arizona public School students in Grades 3 through high School will take AzMERIT in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students will test for about 7 hours across multiple days during April. high School students graduating after December 31, 2016 will no longer be required to pass the AIMS test to graduate high School . However, they must pass the Civics Test. ASVAB The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is given in the fall for juniors and seniors. Taking this test does NOT enlist you in the military, but will give you valuable career interest and aptitude insight about yourself. This test is voluntary and free for both juniors and seniors. PSAT The Guidance Department recommends that college -bound 10th and 11th grade students take the PSAT Test.

9 The top scoring one half of one percent of the 11th grade students taking the PSAT can qualify for National Merit Scholarships. Eleventh grade African American students may request entry to the National Achievement Program (over 700 Achievement Scholarship awards) when they take the PSAT. Not only is the PSAT good practice for the SAT, it is also used as a determining factor for AP potential and can be used to compare a student s academic skills with other college -bound students. The cost to take the PSAT was $ ; per student last year; however, arrangements can be made in the Guidance Office if money is an issue. The PSAT Test is offered in October. *Fee waivers are available for qualified students-see your counselor. ACT-Aspire The Guidance Department recommends that college -bound 10th graders take the ACT / Aspire Test.

10 The ACT / Aspire is good preparation for the ACT Assessment Test, which is used for college admissions. The ACT / Aspire provides information for educational and career planning. Each participating student receives a report that identifies academic strengths and weaknesses and helps students explore career interests. The cost to take the test last year was $ per student. CogAT The Gifted Department offers the Cognitive Abilities Test as an evaluation instrument for identifying students who are eligible for gifted education services. This test is organized into three separate batteries: Verbal, Quantitative and Non-verbal. Referral for this test may be received by students, teachers and parents. This test is administered at each site in the fall. Any student may take the test that has not been tested within the last 12 months.
