Our caring staff strives to create a home-like environment for our residents.

4 This handbook is to introduce you to the Nursing home, its services and policies. We make every effort to ensure each new resident has as comfortable transition as possible to our home. Bishop Nursing Home opened its doors May 12, 1988, and is home for 30 residents. To operate our home 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, we employ approximately 50 people. Bishop Nursing Home is one of 61similar organizations in New Brunswick. We are non-profit and a registered charitable organization. We are a licensed facility and are inspected yearly by the Department of Social Development to ensure that the provincial Nursing home standards are being met.

5 Our Mission Bishop Nursing Home mission is to Provide a home away from home for those people requiring our care through a network of caregivers. Our Values Caring Commitment Resident Focused Respect Sharing Confidentiality Board of Directors Our Board of Directors is comprised of 12 volunteers. They represent various organizations from the Chipman, Minto, and Grand Lake area. The board ensures continuity of quality care through strategic leadership and dedication to the residents and the community. It is also responsible for ensuring that the resources of the organization are used appropriately.

6 6 Administration The administration offices are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. The Administrator manages the day-to-day operations of the Nursing home ensuring the provision of quality resident care and services by monitoring the efficient and effective utilizations of resources within the parameters of the Nursing home policies, standards and budget. The Director of Nursing supervises the Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Resident Attendants. The DON is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating Nursing services to residents. The Administrative Assistant will assist in answering questions about billing and financial matters.

7 Money may be kept in safekeeping in the administration office. Access to this service is limited to normal working hours between and 5 Monday to Friday. Finances The daily rate is determined by the Department of Social Development. Every resident must have a financial assessment completed. Information about financial assessments is available through the Department of Social Development by calling 453-8263. It is important that resident s accounts are paid on time. Payments are due on the 1st day of each month and can be made at the administration office. Room charges will commence on the day of admission, regardless of the time the resident arrives, and continues each day that the resident lives at the home.

8 Costs to retain a bed while a resident is out on a leave or during a hospital admission continue to be the responsibility of the resident. Subsidized resident s are entitled to a health card, which provides some coverage on eye exams, eyeglasses, dental exams, extractions, hearing aids and other specific health supplies. Residents are eligible to access the HST rebate. The comfort and clothing allowance is used to cover personal expenses such as clothing, medication not covered by the NB Prescription Drug Program, over-the-counter medications, cable, telephone, etc. 7 ACCOMMODATION Rooms We have a combination of private and semi-private rooms.

9 Each room has a bathroom and a closet. All residents commonly share all living areas with the exception of resident s personal room and attached bathroom. Our facility accommodates 30 resident care beds. Rooms are assigned based on availability and the needs of the individual resident. The home reserves the right to transfer a resident, at any time, from one room to another within the facility. Furnishings Our facility provides basic furnishings, linen and basic bedding. We encourage our residents and family members to bring personal items such as small pieces of furniture, pictures, radios, television, etc.

10 To make the resident feel at home. To ensure safety, comfortable movement and cleanliness we ask you to limit the amount of ornaments and knick knacks. Please keep in mind that space is limited. Small fridges are allowed. The resident or family is responsible for the cleaning of the fridge and monitoring the temperature to insure food is being kept cool enough. Removal of outdated food is also the responsibility of the resident or family. Upon arrival, maintenance staff will assist with moving. All electrical appliances must be CSA approved and inspected and cleared by maintenance before it is put into use.
