Water TechnologiesWallace & Tiernan MFC - Analyzer / Controllerwith Depolox 5 and VariaSens Flow Cell TechnologyThe Wallace & Tiernan MFC Analyzer / Controller offers a broad combination of drinking water analysis and disinfection/chemical control in a single control function offers an easy, software selectable range of control modes from flow proportional, residual control only, compound loop, and set point trim enabling precise control of a chlorinator or metering pump to maintain the desired level of disinfection and water quality. Up to 4 water quality parameters, such as free and total chlorine, chlorine dioxide, ozone, fluoride, conductivity, redox, pH and temperature can be measured by single or multiple flow cells.

A variety of flow cells are available, including the proven Depolox 5, bare-electrode measuring cell for free chlorine, potassium permanganate, chlorine dioxide and ozone and the VariaSens flow block for utilizing internally buffered oxidant sensors. This is provided by the two basic flow cells that can be used with the MFC electronic module. Both feature an integral flow control valve and hydraulic design to provide optimum flow around all 5 This flow cell features an integral, bare-electrode measurement cell for free chlorine, chlorine dioxide, ozone and potassium permanganate.

This unique combination of Analyzer /sensor and flow cell enables a very quick response time to meet fluctuating disinfection demands or applications where there is a high degree of hardness, which prohibits the use of a membrane-type sensor. The well proven principle of Hydro-mechanical grit cleaning of the electrodes maintains the sensitivity of the bare-electrode sensors extending the interval time between to three additional sensors, including membrane sensors, can be mounted in the cell housing for measuring other water integral flow-control valve regulates the sample flow. An integral multi-sensor provides sample temperature measurement, through a PT1000 sensor, for temperature compensation of the chlorine residual to four parameters, including temperature, can be configured as mA outputs.

The multi-sensor monitors sample flow to provide a loss of flow alarm contact. APPLICATIONSThe MFC Analyzer / Controller is suitable for a number of drinking water and industrial process water treatment applications. These include:Online measurement of up to 4 out of the 8 parameter choices mentioned of 2 control outputs with up to 4 control parameters from flow proportional control to compound loop control with set point trim enabling optimization of disinfection or chemical dosing in a wide range of potable water and a variety of industrial water applications include:Disinfection control chlorination (using chlorine gas, sodium hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide, ozone, potassium p e r m a n g a n a t e ) , d e c h l o r i n a t i o n , monitoring dosing and Corrosion applications.

This enables the sensors to be mounted up to 50 m /164 ft(Depolox 5 flow cell 1 m / ft max.) away from the con-troller at a suitable location to meet various sampling and hydraulic electronic module can accept up to four input modules to accommodate multiple measurement requirements. The measurement modules consist of a sensor that is mounted in the appropriate flow cell and a plug-in circuit module that is inserted in the electronic module. Utilizing plug and play technology allows the Controller to automatically recognize the sensor and provide the correct display BareElectrodesFlow ControlValveMulti-SensorFilterMountingDe viceSensors for:Total ChlorineCombined ChlorineOzoneChlorine DioxidepHORPC onductivityInletVariaSens This flow-cell assembly can be equipped with up to four sensors.

This includes mounting locations for two membrane-type sensors and places for up to three additional sensors, such as pH, ORP, fluoride, etc. An integral flow-control valve regulates the sample flow to a constant 33 l/h. A constant flow of water is directed past the surface of the membrane sensor to eliminate any air bubbles which could result in a false reading. A multi-sensor, as described above, provides temperature measurement and flow Measuring Cell For oxidant measuting, a three-electrode technology measuring cell is used. Reliability and stability are vastly improved while maintenance is dramatically reduced.

This technology is used in both the bare-electrode and membrane-type 5 Bare Electrode CellFast response to changes in free Cl2, ClO2, O3 or KMnO4 residuals (90% change <20 secs.) with high accuracy ( 2% ). The addition of a pH sensor provides for a pH-compensated free Cl2 measurement without the need to buffer the CellAn internal, buffered electrolyte reduces the effect of pH on chlorine measurement. This is ideal for waters with varying pH. The flow and pressure controlled VariaSens flow cell provides for representative and repeatable residual measurement of free and total Cl2, ClO2 and point calibration.

No need for zero 2. CommunicationsThe standard output of the MFC consists of four individual 0/4-20 mA output signals, which can be configured for each of the measured inputs or used for a control output to a positioner or VFD/SCR are eight separate relays, which can be customer assigned as any alarm contact or general fault alarm. A pair of these relays can also be used to drive a Wallace & Tiernan positioner ( ) without mA MFC supports a variety of digital communication formats including RS 485, OPC server, and CMS software. Combined with the Wallace & Tiernan ChemWeb-Server, measured value archiving and display, remote diagnosis, remote access with standard browser with Internet and e-mail capability is backlit, LCD graphic display provides all of the menu information for operation, setup and calibration of the MFC.

The menus are easy to use, displayed in plain text in a choice of 8 languages, and are selected using softkeys. In addition to displaying all of the measurement information from all inputs, a 7-day trend graph is available for historical reference and analysis. 4 5 Integral Control Functions The MFC is a dedicated Controller based upon the company s 90+ years of experience as a leader in the field of disinfection and chemical built-in selectable control options enables the operator to select the right control for his application. The outputs can be used to control a chlorinator, sulphonator, ammoniator or metering proportional or ratio control adjusts feedrates based on open loop process flow and/or residual variables.
