Weekly Disease Report For The Week Ending …

1 Weekly Disease Report For TheThe Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS) has revolutionized communicabledisease reporting in Michigan; and subsequently, has transformed the Weekly DiseaseReport. The advent of the MDSS allows immediate communication among diseasereporting authorities, local health departments, and the Michigan Department of Healthand Human Services (MDHHS) regarding investigations into possible cases ofcommunicable Disease . Information on these possible cases is available in MDSS regardless of whether they are suspected, probable, or confirmed cases of data in the Weekly Disease Report are provisional, based on current reports toMDHHS by local health departments.

2 The MDSS is a dynamic, continually active system:counts of Disease are constantly changing as cases are investigated, confirmed as cases,or ruled out as not meeting the case definition. The Weekly Disease Report reflects thisconstant activity as the numbers slightly fluctuate each week. Therefore, it should be keptin mind that numbers in the Weekly Disease Report are NOT final and should be usedonly to generally monitor trends over time. Please contact your local health department fordefinitive numbers to be used for research or reporting purposes.

3 To find your local healthdepartment, please visitWeek Ending April 21st, 2018(MMWR Week 16) of terms used in the Weekly Disease Report :MMWR Week: This week (established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)runs from Sunday to Saturday and is assigned a sequentially increasing number from thefirst week containing a Wednesday in January. For example: 38-2010 is the 38th week in2010 and corresponds to the week Ending September 25, : Michigan is divided into 8 Emergency Preparedness Regions.
