Have questions, contact us at A Note from the Chair KAMM Family, Central to our mission is the tenet that KAMM was formed to promote natural hazard mitigation and management in Kentucky, and nature has certainly tested this goal in our recent past. The tornadoes that devastated our western communities, the cascading effects of Winter precipitation, and the ongoing pandemic continue to challenge us as mitigation managers to remain steadfast in our mission to reduce future impacts of disaster recovery cycles.

3 Despite the upheavals that surround us, the KAMM Board works to provide resources that our members can depend upon for information that will strengthen their community leadership and resiliency efforts. As we launch our 2022 schedule, regional trainings, committees, and our annual conference take center stage in the planning process. Behind the scenes, we are also working on an exciting website redesign that will provide broader access and enhanced features. The KAMM Board of Directors has expanded to include an appointed Chair Emeritus who will provide technical mitigation expertise and guidance to our organization in the years to come. We are proud to announce that our first CE is Carey Johnson, founding KAMM member and loyal mitigation leader whose work has had far-reaching impacts across the Commonwealth and beyond throughout his career. Have questions, contact us at A Note from the Vice Chair KAMM Conference Looking Ahead to 2022!! We are continuing to work all the details for the 2022 in-person conference in the eastern part of Kentucky. It looks like we may change locations. However, we are excited that the potential new location will still be in the mountains of our great Commonwealth.

5 As we continue to plan the details of the conference, we will need help from our membership to ensure that the conference will provide a great experience for all who attend. 7 We are entering our third year of providing community grants. Monies from our fundraising goes toward a community hazard mitigation project. Our grants are anticipated to range from $3,000 - $5,000 according to how much we raise. Please make a monetary donation via our link or the QR Code. Have questions, contact us at KAMM Board Welcomes New Chair Emeritus Carey Johnson The KAMM Board of Directors (BOD) has created a new appointed position, Chair Emeritus (CE), to strengthen the continuity of technical mitigation expertise and guidance.

8 We are happy to announce that our first CE is Carey Johnson. Carey is a KAMM founding member who has served on the KAMM Board in various Board roles over the years since 2005. Carey was appointed Director of the KY Division of Water (DOW) in May 2021. For the past 19 years, Carey has led activities to help the Department of Environmental Protection accomplish goals in natural hazards management and resilience, developing and utilizing digital tools and Clean Water and Safe Drinking Water Act activities. Carey serves as Chair of the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) and also manages the Cooperating Technical Partners (CTP) program with FEMA to identify flood hazards and reduce flood risks across the Commonwealth. He is the state lead for the Kentucky Silver Jackets collaborative efforts with the US Army Corps of Engineers. Carey is a current member of the Technical Mapping Advisory Council (TMAC), a federal advisory committee established to review and make recommendations to FEMA on matters related to the national flood-mapping program.

9 He has represented DOW on the National Dam Safety Review Board (NDSRB) and as an Ohio River Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) Commissioner proxy and currently serves as a steering committee member of the Ohio River Basin Alliance (ORBA) and on the Kentucky State Hazard Mitigation Council. We look forward to having Carey continue with the BOD in his new advisory role. KAMM Regions Welcome to our KAMM Regional III Representative - Mario Sebastiani Mario Sebastiani has served as the KAMM Awards & Grants Committee Chair for the last two years and has helped lead efforts in facilitating the KAMM Mitigation Manager and Project of the Year awards, conference scholarships, and grants for mitigation projects. Mario is passionate about water resources and mitigation and plans to bring that passion along with his enthusiasm for helping others to the KAMM Board. Myself and the Regional Reps met at the KAMM Board Winter Retreat to share ideas and brainstorm topics for outreach & training. Three of our Regional Reps are new to the KAMM Board, and bring a new energy and prospective to our KAMM family. Please welcome to Joe, Mario and Mahtaab, and a big thanks to our seasoned rep, Angela. Please join us for our KAMM Regional Trainings. These trainings are being planned as in-person trainings within the four different KAMM regions. Come early to enjoy coffee with other KAMM members, and we ll provide lunch.
