A Job Well Done An occupational health and safety program for secondary school students with disabilities. The Department has developed this resource to assist teachers to prepare students for work EXPERIENCE by exposing them to issues relating to the world of work . Australian Skills Quality ASQA is the national regulator for Australia's vocational education and training sector. ASQA regulates courses and training providers Authority (ASQA) to ensure nationally approved quality standards are met. AusVELS The Foundation to Year 10 curriculum that provides a single, coherent and comprehensive set of prescribed content and common achievement standards, which schools use to plan student learning programs, assess student progress and report to parents.

7 NB: AusVELS will be archived in December 2016 and replaced by the Victorian Curriculum F-10 from January 2017. Child Employment Permit Under the Child Employment Act 2003, it is a requirement that all employers of work EXPERIENCE students aged under 15 years obtain a Child Employment Permit. (For more information see Section B). Child Safe Standards Victoria's compulsory minimum standards for organisations which provide services for children, including Victorian schools, to help ensure the safety of children. The standards are part of the Victorian Government's response to the Betrayal of Trust Inquiry. Duty of care The School Policy and Advisory Guide states that: Whenever a student-teacher relationship exists, the teacher has a special duty of care. This is defined as: A teacher is to take such measures as are reasonable in the circumstances to protect a student under the teacher's charge from risks of injury that the teacher should reasonably have foreseen.

8 [Richards v State of Victoria (1969) VR 136 at p. 141.] This duty can extend beyond school grounds, and includes school approved activities such as work EXPERIENCE . In order to discharge their duty of care in these circumstances, Principals should comply with Part of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 and Ministerial Order 382 - work EXPERIENCE Arrangements. Ministerial Order 382 This provides the operational framework for the delivery of work EXPERIENCE programs in Victorian secondary schools. work EXPERIENCE Arrangements myfuture Australia's national career information and exploration service, helping people to make career decisions, plan career pathways and manage work transitions. Public liability insurance A general term which applies to forms of third party liability insurance with respect to both bodily injury and property damage liability.

Supervisor The person nominated by the employer to directly supervise the student while undertaking a work EXPERIENCE placement. Where required, the supervisor will assess the student at appropriate times and communicate results to the work EXPERIENCE Coordinator. TAFE Technical and Further Education. VCAL Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning.

10 VCE Victorian Certificate of Education. VET Vocational Education and Training. Victorian Registration and The VRQA registers and monitors education and training providers and apprenticeships and traineeships. Qualifications Authority (VRQA). Working with Children Under the Child Employment Act 2003 it is a requirement that all supervisors of work EXPERIENCE students aged under 15 years must Check hold a valid Working with Children Check. If the employer is also the nominated supervisor, then the employer is also required to hold a valid Working with Children Check. (For further details see Section B.). WorkSafe Victoria The statutory body which enforces Victoria's Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) laws and associated regulations, and provides WorkCover insurance. Page work EXPERIENCE MANUAL 6.
