Archbishop Mitchel Rozanski, January 25, 2022 every Parish member is called to pray & listen The All Things New pastoral planning process invites every Catholic to join in the effort of creating a new Church for the real world we all now live in. Keep these pointers in mind: Listening is a Planning Principle .. permeated by prayer .. focused on fruitfulness in ministry .. rooted in the teachings of our faith .. supported by effective pastoral practices .. based on a culture of encounter and trust .. guided by trained leaders .. committed to intentional stewardship Good Listeners will be Tempted .. to lead themselves, not be led by God.

To focus on their own immediate concerns .. to see only problems .. to focus only on structures .. to not look beyond the Church .. to conflict and division .. to view ourselves as against each other .. to listen only to the highly engaged an essential dimension of Church the Spirit in the assembly In October 2021 Pope Francis opened a two-year Synod in Rome designed to involve the whole world. He instructed the Christian community to keep us from becoming a museum church , beautiful but mute, with much past and little future . Pope Francis wants us to ask these critical questions: In the Church, are we good at listening?

How good is the hearing of our heart? Do we allow people to express themselves, to walk in faith, even though they have had difficulties in life? To be part of the life of the community without being hindered, rejected, or judged? At the opening session of the Synod, Pope Francis told participants that this process must include all the Church s members, especially those frequently marginalized. All Things New is a pastoral planning initiative that highly values prayer and careful listening to one another and to the communities we are called to serve. Journeying together through the next 18 months requires a mutual commitment to these values.

Please review and remember what it takes to be a good listener and the temptations which may throw you off track as we move ahead. (See Left Column) As most of us know from experience growing up and into the future of our lives often requires an honest appraisal, even chilly confrontation, with the truth of who we are, followed by a realization of how much the Spirit s help is required to get us to where we are called to be. If such humility and openness to grace should prove the Synod s main fruit, it will yield a rich harvest indeed . (Austen Ivereigh, Pope Francis s Let Us Dream: A Path to a Better World) I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.

Gospel of John 17: 20 21 Grant that all the faithful of the Church, looking into the signs of the times by the light of faith, may constantly devote themselves to the service of the Gospel. Keep us attentive to the needs of all that sharing their grief and pain, their joy and hope, we may faithfully bring them the good news of salvation and go forward with them along the way of your Kingdom. jesus , the Way to the Father Roman Missal, Eucharistic Prayer for Various Needs III Based on Gaudium et Spes, 1 3 steadfast in faith * forward in hope Fifth Sunday In Ordinary Time February 6, 2022 January 25, 2022 Dear Parishioners, As the Archdiocese begins its All Things New Strategic Pastoral Planning Process, I am aware that in times past, initiatives have fallen short of completion.

For those who experienced frustration, anger, resentment and wounds from these past processes, I acknowledge your pain, struggle and hurt and I pray that the Lord may bless you with his healing. I assure you as your Archbishop that All Things New will both affect and be com-pleted by the entire Archdiocese. For this strategic pastoral planning process to be successful, I ask for your participation. You are invaluable in this process and I need you to share your insights from the past and your hopes for the future as we strive to create a vibrant church in St. louis . Let me be clear that there is no preconceived plan. Prayerful discernment, honest discussions and listening sessions on how to best use our resources to evangelize the world of today, while looking to tomorrow, will be crucial elements to this process.
