In this scripture, the word liberty means release ; in other words, to set free or tobring out of slavery.

3 Jesus said that the Spiritof the Lord had anointed Him to set men free, to releasethose who were Christ10your Rights in christThis gives us an idea of what liberty is. A closelook at some other scriptures where the word isused will give more insight into its meaning andimport .Galatians 5:13: For, brethren, ye have been called untoliberty; only use not liberty for an occasionto the flesh, but by love serve one another. Paul says, You have been called unto liberty. The original word from which liberty as used inGalatians 5:13 was translated, is different from thatused in Luke 4:18. Liberty in Galatians 5:13 impliesthe same as in Galatians 2:4 where Paul said: And that because of false brethren un-awares brought in, who came in privily tospy out our liberty which we have in ChristJesus, that they might bring us into bond-age: The word liberty in this verse of scriptureactually means the same thing as right (as in one sright).

This means that Christ brought us out of slavery,so He could bring us into freedom: freedom with legalrights. Now, it is one thing to bring someone out ofsomething, and it is another to bring him intosomething brought us out so He could bring us in. Wehave therefore been called unto liberty in Christ . Wehave been brought out of slavery and brought in that liberty we have Rights .
