Chris and Anita OyakhilomeACKNOWLEDGEMENTC ontentsINTRODUCTION 7 Liberty in ChristCHAPTER ONE 13 The Right to ChooseCHAPTER TWO 35 The Right to LiveCHAPTER THREE 49 The Right to RuleCONCLUSION 55 Exercise your Rights !Luke 4:18: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, becausehe hath anointed me to preach the gospelto the poor; he hath sent me to heal the bro-ken hearted, to preach deliverance to thecaptives, and recovery of sight to the blind,to set at liberty them that are bruised. In this scripture, the word liberty means release ; in other words, to set free or tobring out of slavery.

Jesus said that the Spiritof the Lord had anointed Him to set men free, to releasethose who were Christ10your Rights in christThis gives us an idea of what liberty is. A closelook at some other scriptures where the word isused will give more insight into its meaning andimport .Galatians 5:13: For, brethren, ye have been called untoliberty; only use not liberty for an occasionto the flesh, but by love serve one another. Paul says, You have been called unto liberty. The original word from which liberty as used inGalatians 5:13 was translated, is different from thatused in Luke 4:18. Liberty in Galatians 5:13 impliesthe same as in Galatians 2:4 where Paul said: And that because of false brethren un-awares brought in, who came in privily tospy out our liberty which we have in ChristJesus, that they might bring us into bond-age: The word liberty in this verse of scriptureactually means the same thing as right (as in one sright).

It is synonymous with authority, but in this caseit emphasizes a right: a legal right!11 When he says we have been called unto liberty(Galatians 5:13), he means we have been called intofreedom the kind of freedom that empowers onewith a legal this meaning of liberty with that ofLuke 4:18, provides better understanding of the word liberty. This means that Christ brought us out of slavery,so He could bring us into freedom: freedom with legalrights. Now, it is one thing to bring someone out ofsomething, and it is another to bring him intosomething brought us out so He could bring us in. Wehave therefore been called unto liberty in Christ . Wehave been brought out of slavery and brought in that liberty we have Rights . In talking aboutliberty in Christ , we are also talking about the rightswe have in Christ : The right to choose The right to live The right to ruleliberty in christ12your Rights in christ1.

Jesus is the embodiment of We have legal Rights by virtue of ourliberty in to the term liberty? anointed Jesus to set men free? the context of the Introduction, whatdoes it mean to be called unto liberty? this quote: Jesus brought us out so the discussed Rights we have inChrist? in christOne thing about Jesus that a lot of people do not know is that He gives to every- one who comes to Him the right is not a religion. In the religions ofthe world, you lose your right to choose, and as amatter of fact, you almost lose your become a religious and psychological lose the right to choose to whoever orwhatever is extolled to be god. You can not choosewhat you want anymore. Somehow, this opinion ofChapter OneThe Rightto Choose16your Rights in christreligion has been passed from one generation toanother, and people have come to think that God isreally like think that you lose yourself when you cometo Jesus.

They think, Well, if I am born again, I willnot be able to do what I want to do. I will lose my rightto choose. How untrue! Yet, it is sad to note thatsome Christians have helped in perpetuating thiserroneous idea because of the way they presentChristianity to the you come to Jesus, He gives you the rightto choose. Sometimes, though, people have not beenable to choose for fear of missing out on God s will years ago, a sister said a fellow came toher and said she was to be his wife according to theordinance of God. This fellow said that God hadspoken to him and said he was to marry her, and shefelt terrible. She felt terrible because she was to marryhim and she didn t want to. It seemed to her that shecouldn t do anything about prayed, asking God why He would do sucha thing to her: telling her to marry someone she didn t17want for a husband.

She respected the gentlemanbecause he was a good preacher. He also obviouslyknew how to talk the sister into believing it was God one day, she heard me say something fromthe Bible: that a lady is free to be married towhomsoever she wills. She was surprised and asked ifthe Bible really said so. She demanded that I show itto her and when she saw it in the Bible, she exclaimed, Wow! I did not know what her trouble was until myexplanation. Then she told me all about it. She hadbeen bound. She thought she could not make achoice because God had handed her a lot of people are like that. They say, If Godsays that is who you are going to marry, then that iswho you must marry. Or if you don t get that job, nomatter how good it is, then it means God doesn t wantyou to have the good job.

God until webecome nobodies. When Jesus came, He showed us that things werenot that way. You do have a right to choose. Life reallythe right to choose18your Rights in christbegins when you give your life to your Creator andHe gives you the power to face reality. This is the Mark 10, we find a beautiful story of a blindman named Bartimaeus. He always sat by the roadsidebegging for alms. Then one day, while he was therebegging in his usual manner, Jesus Christ passed Bartimaeus heard the noise and called tosomeone to tell him what was going on. They toldhim, Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. The Bible says hebegan to cry out loud, Jesus, Son of David, have mercyon me. There was a crowd with Jesus and quite anumber of them were in front of him, and when theygot to where blind Bartimaeus was, they charged himto hold his to their religion, if you were sick orblind, then it was seen as God being against you.

Inother words, the sickness was a reflection of your sin,in which case, you had no right to healing. This meantyou couldn t dare ask for healing. So they said to him, Stop; don t talk anymore. The master is coming; bequiet! But praise God, the Bible says Bartimaeus yelled19the louder, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me. It is recorded that when Jesus Christ got to him, Hestopped and asked for him to be brought to Him. BlindBartimaeus was brought face to face with Jesus. Then,Jesus asked him a question: ..what wilt thou that I should do untothee? (Mark 10:51).That means, what do you want me to do for you?Jesus gave him the right to choose. Did you observethat? He was ready to do anything: whatever blindBartimaeus people are not yet at that point in theirlives where they have made a decision concerningwhat they want from God, because religion tells themnot to ask God for anything.

They have been told thatGod has no time to spend on them and their meagrethoughts or desires. God, Who is Almighty, and you,so insignificant, they say. So religion has told themthat regardless of what their present state is, it s God swill for them. A man who is born deaf in one ear is sothe right to choose20your Rights in christbecause that is God s will for him. To the poor, theysay, That s how it has been in your family lineage:poverty belongs to you. It s God s way of keeping yourfamily humble. And so, many people have been defeatedpsychologically because of the lack of do not really know who God another occasion, Jesus was walking along astreet in Jerusalem with His disciples and they cameto a man who had been blind from birth (John 9:1-3).The disciples asked the Master questions regardingwhat they had been taught by the Scribes andPharisees.
