Individual sound segments (such as [k] of cat do not qualify as morphemes because they cannot properly be said to have any meaning. Clauses, phrases, and many words (for example houses) fail to qualify as morphemes because they can be divided into smaller meaningful units. Problem 1. Luiseno.
