The graph of y = f(x) + c is the graph of y = f(x) shifted c units vertically upwards. The graph of y = f(x) - c is the graph of y = f(x) shifted c units vertically downwards. g(x) = x2 + 2 = f(x) + 2 h(x) = x2 3 = f(x) 3 Look for the positive and negative sign. Positive sign makes the graph move upwards and the negative sign makes it move downwards Here is a picture of the graph of g(x) = x2 1. It is obtained from the graph of f(x) = x2 by shifting it down 1 unit.
