Students will synthesise a diamagnetic and a paramagnetic metal acetylacetonate complex (or each student synthesises one, and do their analysis in pairs) and obtain a 1H-NMR spectrum using the Paramagnetic protocol. Evans method is used to determine the number of unpaired electrons and thus the electronic structure of paramagnetic complexes.
