The town in northern Italy wonthe olympic bid over; Montreal, Colorado Springs, and Lake Placid. Several aspects made these Gamesunique: all of the venues were within walking distance except one, for the first time in history the Gamesrelied heavily on corporate sponsorship (Fiat was the official car ), and this was the first televised WinterOlympics. Thirty-two nations arrived to compete, including the Soviet Union, competing for the first timeand winning more gold medals than any other events were featured, in four sports, plus two new events: the men s 30-kilometerCross-Country and the women s 3x5-kilometer Cross-Country races. A new aerodynamic style for SkiJumping was introduced by the Finnish team, with arms flat against the body, instead of over the head in adiving position.
