Tools, Clothing, Weapons and decorations were all sourced from their local environment, or in the case of some items, traded or bartered. Ochre, iron oxide, played an important role in ABORIGINAL Cultures as a pigment used for decoration, artwork and ceremonies. There is evidence that red and yellow ochre were traded over distances of thousands of kilometres. Ochre from Western Australia may have been carried as far as Queensland.
