It consists of a pentameric ring with each monomer containing 206 amino acid residues. It is produced by the liver in response to interleukin 6, which is released from macrophages during the inflammatory response. Function of analyte CRP binds to phosphocholine on the damaged membranes of autologous cells and to extrinsic ligands expressed by many micro organisms.
