This article, therefore, discusses several aspects of case studies as a research method . These include the design and categories of case studies and how their robustness can be achieved. It also explores on the advantages and disadvantages of case study as a research method .

In some case studies, an in-depth longitudinal examination of a single case or event is used. The longitudinal examination provides a systematic way of observing the events, collecting data, analysing information, and reporting the results over a long period of time.
