Quality Control/Quality Assurance Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA) can be defined as the set of planned and systematic activities focused on providing confidence that Quality requirements will be fulfilled. It covers a wide range of matters that influence the Quality of a product or service. In a medical laboratory, the Quality can be defined as accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of the reported test results (1). QC refers to those measures that must be included in each assay to verify that the test is working properly. QA is defined as the overall program that ensures that the final results reported by the laboratory are as correct and accurate as possible. I. Negative consequences of laboratory errors This broad concept applies to any kind of laboratory testing, including diagnostic testing for bacterial meningitis. Inaccurate meningitis diagnostic results can have significant consequences at the patient care or public health level.

The laboratory should understand who their customers are (the patients, the physicians, or the public health authorities), assess their needs, and use customer feedback for making improvements.
