Chemistry 101. Chapter 10. Energy Energy : the ability to do work or produce heat. Kinetic Energy (KE): is the Energy of motion. Any object that is moving has kinetic Energy . Several forms of kinetic Energy exist. The most important are mechanical Energy , heat, light, and electrical Energy . KE = m 2 m: mass : velocity Potential Energy (PE): is stored Energy . The potential Energy possessed by an object arises from its capacity to move or to cause motion. Chemical Energy and nuclear Energy are examples of potential Energy . Law of conservation of Energy : Energy can be neither created nor destroyed but one form of Energy can be converted to another.
Dr. Behrang Madani Chemistry 101 CSUB Hp = heat Thus the enthalpy change for a reaction (that occurs at constant pressure) is the same as the heat for that reaction.
