International Journal of Education and Research Vol. 2 No. 1 January 2014 1 COMMUNICATION BARRIER IN MALAYSIA construction SITES ANANTHAN VALITHERM UNIVERSITI TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN ABSTRACT Language BARRIER is a type of COMMUNICATION BARRIER that has been agitating the stakeholders in the construction industry in MALAYSIA especially the supervisors and the foreign labours in the construction site. This is because almost all of the labours in the construction site are foreign labours coming from poor economic countries such as Bangladesh and Nepal due to the much lower pay than that of local labours. However, a lot of them cannot speak nor understand the local language that is understandable by their superiors. They take time to learn the local language in order to communicate with their superiors. The language BARRIER consequently leads to other problems such as delay and safety matters.
