This STANDARD is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the DEPARTMENT of DEFENSE (DoD). 2. In accordance with DoD Instruction , it is DoD policy that all forces for joint and combined operations be supported through compatible, interoperable, and integrated Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C3I) systems. Furthermore, all C3I systems developed for use by forces are considered to be for joint use. The director of the DEFENSE Information Systems Agency (DISA) serves as DoD's single point of contact for developing information technology standards to achieve interoperability and compatibility.
