The global context The Global Plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children by 2015 and keeping their mothers alive is well underway, with ambitious goals of reducing the number of new HIV infections in children by 90% and HIV-related maternal deaths by 50%.1 There is now unprecedented collaboration and political will to accomplish these goals, and many countries have made exceptional progress.
