Purpose. This manual prescribes guidance for designing new hydraulic steel structures (HSS) by Load and Resistance Factor DESIGN (LRFD). This guidance is not intended for use in designing repairs to existing HSS. Allowable Stress DESIGN (ASD) guidance is provided for those structure types where LRFD criteria have yet to be developed.
