Mpressive examples over the past several years illustrate the value of uti-lizing Six Sigma and related best practices for healthcare quality andprocess improvement. Providers, however, continue to face a daunting and escalating array ofchallenges. Regulatory pressures, increased competition, cost managementissues, workforce shortages and rising consumerism all vie for attention andremediation. Occupying an increasingly prominent place on the healthcare execu-tive s radar screen are issues involving clinical quality and patient of overuse, underuse and misuse of healthcare services have beencostly to patients, providers and payers. Prompted by illuminating reports from the Institute of Medicine1, 2andscrutiny from groups such as Leapfrog, providers are seeking effectivemethods for both optimizing the care they deliver and documenting is a pivotal moment in the history of medicine one offering greatpromise through rapidly advancing technology and tremendous pressureto deliver better care to more people for less cost.
Healthcare’s Horizon Service delivery methods in healthcare have also become entrenched and often run counter to the notion of customer centricity.
