Things to Watch For: Does the baby cry a lot? Does he seem satisfied? Is the baby alert? Is he responding to his caregiver and surroundings? Is the mother responsive to her baby s cries? Does the mother recognize and respond to cues that the baby is hungry, tired, bored, or needs a diaper change? Does the mother keep the baby in a safe place when she s not holding the baby? Does she breastfeed her baby on demand? Is she placing him on his back to sleep? Does she seem frustrated/overwhelmed by the baby? Is the home clean? Are dangerous items (guns, poisonous materials, sharp objects) locked up and out of reach? Are electrical outlets covered? Are electrical cords out of reach? Are guns, knives, and poisonous materials locked and put away?
