Different spiritual traditions teachmethods of "awakening" Kundalini for the purpose of reaching spiritualenlightenment are there.[1] Kundalini is described as lying "coiled" at thebase of the spine, represented as either a goddess or sleeping serpentwaiting to be awakened. In modern commentaries, Kundalini has beencalled an unconscious, instinctive or libidinal force,[2][3][4] or "motherenergy or intelligence of complete maturation".[5] Kundalini awakening is said to result in deep meditation, enlightenmentand bliss.[6] This awakening involves the Kundalini physically movingup the central channel to reach within the Sahasrara Chakra at the top ofthe head. Many systems of yoga focus on the awakening of Kundalinithrough meditation, pranayama breathing, the practice of asana andchanting of mantras.
