Lab: Drops on A Penny name _____Per. _____ # Purpose : To learn about independent variables and dependent variables in an experiment. To learn why an experiment must be controlled. Materials: -plastic pipette (1/partner pair) -paper cup or beaker (1/partner pair) -pennies (1/partner pair) -cloth or paper towels (multiple) Procedure: Complete steps 1-5 with your partner. 1. Estimate the number of water Drops you expect to fit on a Penny before water Drops fall onto the table. 2. Record this number on Table 1 . 3. Using your plastic pipette, add water Drops onto your Penny . Keep track of how many Drops you add. Record the number of Drops before water fell off the Penny . 4. Repeat steps 1-3 (estimate, then ) two more times for Trial 2 and Trial 3. 5. Now share with your results with the other pair of partners in your group of 4. Can you think of what you may have done differently that might cause the different numbers? Think of 3 reasons on your own and write them down in the space below labeled Experimental Differences.
