Journal of Education and Practice ISSN 2222-1735 (Paper) ISSN 2222-288X (Online) , , 2015 206 Laboratory teaching : Implication on students Achievement In Chemistry In Secondary Schools In Ebonyi State of Nigeria Associate Prof. Omiko Akani Department of Science Education, Faculty of Education, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki Abstract This study aimed at investigation of the roles of the Laboratory in students academic achievement in chemistry in secondary schools in Ebonyi State of Nigeria. Four research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. A sample of 240 students selected through simple random sampling technique from ten secondary schools in the 3 Education Zones in Ebonyi State was used for the study. A questionnaire instrument developed by the researcher was used for data collection.
Key words: Laboratory, chemistry, teaching, achievement, students. Introduction The laboratory in the school has been defined by several authors in different ways. Maduabum (1992) sees a laboratory as a place where scientific exercises are conducted by the science teachers for the benefit of the students (learners).
