Developed to detect the Charpy Test onset of brittle failure in ductile materials steel ships, bridges etc. Ductile to Brittle Transition Temperature - Still used in quality control and Standards (ship plate etc). Metallurgical Factors Affecting TT Three main factors were producing these fractures in service: Fatigue Triaxial stress state (at notches, cracks etc).
