Thinker 028 INTRODUCTION Porter has generally been viewed as being at the leading edge of strategic thinking since his first major publication, Competitive Strategy (1980), which was a great success and became a corporate bible for many in the early 1980s. A second major publication Competitive Advantage (1985) introduced the now familiar concepts of competitive advantage and the value chain.
