In light of this scientific uncertainty, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) convened a Microplastics Expert Workshop in June 2017 to identify and prioritize the scientific information needed to understand the risks posed by Microplastics (broadly defined as plastic particles <5 mm in size in any one dimension ( Arthur et al.))
