Parental leave systems are diverse and individual systems do not always fit neatly into classifications suitable for international comparison. That said, four general types of Parental leave are identifiable: maternity leave (or pregnancy leave ): employment-protected leave of absence for employed women at around the time of childbirth, or adoption in some countries.
