Babies born to adolescent mothers account for roughly 11% of all births worldwide; 95% occur in developing countries. For some of these young women, PREGNANCY and childbirth are planned and wanted, but for many others they are not. There are several factors that contribute to this.
Over 30% of girls in developing countries marry before 18 years of age; around 14% do so before the age of 15. Early marriage is a risk factor for early pregnancy and poor reproductive health outcomes.
