Renewable Energy Fact Sheet: Wind Turbines
During times of high wind speeds, stall-controlled turbines create turbulence on the side of the rotor blade which is not facing the wind. This stall prevents the lifting force of the rotor blade from acting on the rotor. About two thirds of the wind turbines currently being installed in the world today are stall-controlled turbine

Yaw drive: Upwind turbines face into the wind; the yaw drive is used to keep the rotor facing into the wind as the wind direction changes. Downwind turbines don't require a yaw drive, the wind blows the rotor downwind.
