Introduction A Roundabout is a form of circular intersection in which traffic travels counterclockwise around a central island and in which entering traffic must yield to circulating traffic. Modern roundabouts are distinctly different from other forms of circular intersections (rotaries, signalized traffic circles, etc.). Figure 1 illustrates the key characteristics of a modern Roundabout . Figure 1: Key Roundabout Characteristics Modern roundabouts have demonstrated safety and operational benefits and should be considered as an alternative for intersection improvement projects.
