safety and security enhanced wheelchair Ryan Pearce, Trent Gallagher, Angelo Biaggi, and Lomar Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida, 32816-2450 Abstract This paper presents the designs utilized to take a standard wheelchair and upgrade it with modern conveniences to improve the safety and usability for the operator(s). This is achieved by the use of a locking system triggered by both pressure pads or a unique Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag detected by the project.
